Background of Program  :

The Diploma in Hotel Management program, under the Faculty of Management, PICOMS International University College (PICOMS) is the first non-medical related program offered by the PICOMS, as a diversification exercise in preparation for upgrading into a university-college by the year 2017. This program was selected as part of the college’s effort to contribute to the manpower needs of the hospitality industry, particularly in hotel operations in the country. According to PEMANDU, the tourism industry will require about 495,000 additional workers from 2017 until 2020 in order to meet the targeted growth plan, which offers great career opportunities for the hotel management graduates.

Program Educational Objectives (PEO)

PEO 1

To produce graduates who are knowledgeable and are able to solve operational problems in hospitality operations with an innovative, creative and sustainable approach.

PEO 2

To produce graduates who are technically competent, able to work with others and have effective communication skills to pursue successful careers in the hospitality industry.

PEO 3

To produce graduates who are able to utilize information technology, apply basic mathematics and to explore entrepreneurial opportunities and academic advancement in the area of hospitality management.

PEO 4

To produce graduates who have the right ethical behavior reflective of Islamic values, and demonstrate professionalism, to lead a team in any hospitality operations.

 

Program Learning Objective (PLO)

PLO 1

Demonstrate understanding of a broad range of complex technical and theoretical knowledge in the area of hospitality operations.

PLO 2

 

Apply the theoretical concepts and principles in hospitality organisations operation to solve common, well-defined operational problems in a creative and innovative approach.

PLO 3

 

Demonstrate practical skills to perform the routine / non-routine job tasks and capable to make necessary practical adjustment to complete the tasks in the area of hospitality operations.

PLO 4

Apply interactive communications; relationships and collaborative skills in managing relationships in teams and within the hospitality organizations

PLO 5

Demonstrate effective communication ability, both verbal and written, to others in the operations of hospitality organisation.

Apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern hospitality technological media tools to solve well-defined hospitality problems

Career Prospects             :

The graduates of this program have ample career opportunities in major hotels in the Klang Valley as the students from this program are well received by these hotels, especially during their Industrial Attachment program as well as during working as part-timers. Other hotels around the country have also recognized the program due to good rapport between the hotels and PICOMS, particularly with the management of the program.

Admission Requirements          :

  1. A pass in SPM with a minimum of three (3) credits in any subject, or its equivalent; OR
  2. A pass in Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) with a minimum of Grade C (GP 2.00) in any subject, or its equivalent; OR
  3. A pass in Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with a minimum grade of Maqbul in any subject, or its equivalent; OR
  4. A pass in SKM level 3 in a related field; OR
  5. A Certificate (Level 3, MQF) in a related field or its equivalent.
  6. Qualified under APEL requirements

ENGLISH COMPETENCY REQUIREMENT (INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS)

International students are required to achieve a minimum score of 4.0 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) /Malaysian University English Test (MUET) with Band 2 OR its equivalent.
